Overview

Google is hiring a Software Engineer III for Embedded Systems/Firmware to develop and enhance switch platforms and optimize software for performance. You'll work with C/C++ and embedded operating systems in Bengaluru.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with at least 2 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages. Your background includes working with embedded operating systems, and you have hands-on experience coding in C/C++ for embedded systems and firmware design. You are familiar with data center infrastructure and networking hardware, and you possess a strong understanding of network hardware architectures and the interaction between software and ASICs/FPGAs.

You are adaptable and eager to learn new technologies, especially in the evolving networking landscape. Your experience includes contributing to software projects, showcasing your collaboration skills and commitment to code quality. A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred, along with experience with network operating systems used on high-performance switches like Cisco IOS-XR or Juniper JunOS.

What you'll do

In this role, you will work on critical projects that are essential to Google’s needs, focusing on switch security and the development of switch platforms. You will optimize switch software and QoS mechanisms to ensure high performance within Google's infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include developing testing frameworks, conducting analyses, and addressing potential issues to maintain an available network. You will collaborate closely with network hardware engineers, system engineers, and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) to seamlessly integrate software solutions into Google's global network.
