Overview

Google is hiring a Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability and uptime of Google Cloud services. You'll work with distributed systems and automation tools to manage complex challenges at scale. This position requires 2 years of experience in software development and systems engineering.

Job Description

Who you are

You hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, and you have at least 2 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages. Your background includes designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems, and you have a solid understanding of Unix/Linux system internals, including signals, processes, threads, and file descriptors. You are skilled in troubleshooting and debugging distributed systems in a production environment, and you have experience in designing and developing software for operational automation, monitoring, or reliability, focusing on scalability, fault tolerance, and availability.

You understand that Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. You are passionate about ensuring that services have the reliability and uptime appropriate to customer needs while continuously improving performance. You thrive in environments where you can optimize existing systems, build infrastructure, and eliminate manual work through automation.

Desirable

A Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred, as well as additional experience in managing complex challenges unique to cloud environments. You are familiar with coding, algorithms, complexity analysis, and large-scale system design, which will help you succeed in this role.

What you'll do

As a Site Reliability Engineer at Google, you will partner with customer teams to drive capacity delivery and design frameworks, software, and tooling for fast, reliable deployments. You will implement intricate mitigation strategies to manage outages and monitor dozens of interconnected systems for efficiency gains, resiliency, and predictability. Your role will involve developing sustainable incident response processes and conducting painless postmortems to learn from outages and improve system reliability.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the systems you manage are robust and scalable. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of Google Cloud services, making you a key player in maintaining the high standards that Google is known for. You will also have opportunities to innovate and contribute to the development of new tools and processes that enhance operational efficiency.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a culture that values collaboration and innovation. You will have access to cutting-edge technology and the opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the industry. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse teams build better products. You will enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package, along with opportunities for professional growth and development within the company.
