Job Description
Who you are
You hold a Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering or Telecom Engineering, or have equivalent practical experience. With at least 2 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP, you have a solid understanding of system design operations methodology. You have experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications environment. Your ability to communicate fluently in English is essential for supporting client relationship management in this region. You are willing to work in a rotating shift environment within a network operations center, demonstrating your commitment to the role.
You have a strong background in Layer 1 optical transmissions and Layer 3 routing (TCP/IP). Your experience in wireless networking and network design within a service provider or enterprise setting is a plus. You are proficient with EMS/NMS systems and have a solid understanding of TCP/IP and routing protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, BGP, and MPLS. Your troubleshooting methodology and creative problem-solving skills enable you to work effectively under pressure.
What you'll do
As a Network Operations Engineer, you will be the initial point of contact for executing deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, and Field Engineers within Google, as well as construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors. Your role will involve diagnosing Layer 1 to Layer 3 network errors and initiating and completing network repairs. You will develop workflows and systems to diagnose optical Layer 1 and Layer 3 network issues to completion. Additionally, you will participate in 24/7 global team shift rotations and provide remote support for field operations related to network repairs. You will also interface with customers, communicating repair status and updates as needed.
