Who you are
You have 8 years of experience in an applied research setting, with at least 3 years leading design projects and managing teams. Your background includes developing and launching products within Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, showcasing your expertise in these cutting-edge technologies. You hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, and a Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field is preferred. You are a fierce advocate for users, employing qualitative research methods such as field studies, interviews, and diary studies to inform product development and strategy. Your experience includes working with executive leadership, allowing you to navigate complex organizational structures effectively.
You are skilled in understanding user needs and behaviors, particularly as they relate to AI-powered products. Your ability to evaluate the quality of AI outputs against user instructions is complemented by your knack for identifying common failure modes where AI may misunderstand user intent. You are adept at defining and refining research methodologies to ensure high-quality, impactful research outcomes.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead a team of researchers dedicated to shaping the future of information discovery through AI. You will collaborate closely with UX, Engineering, and Product Management teams to create innovative user experiences across all of Google's products. Your responsibilities will include guiding your team in conducting user testing, interviews, surveys, and contextual inquiries to gather insights into user needs and pain points. You will also be responsible for evaluating AI outputs and ensuring that your team's research methodologies are robust and effective.
You will take the lead in managing projects within a large, matrixed organization, ensuring that your team's work aligns with broader business objectives. Your role will involve mentoring team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence, and advocating for user-centered design principles throughout the product development process. You will also engage with executive leadership to communicate research findings and influence product strategy.
