Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in software engineering with a focus on eCommerce solutions — your experience includes leading migrations from legacy systems to modern architectures. You are well-versed in cloud-native technologies and have a deep understanding of AWS services, enabling you to design scalable and efficient solutions.
Your expertise in PHP and Java allows you to navigate complex codebases and contribute to both backend and frontend development. You are familiar with Kubernetes and understand how to leverage container orchestration for deploying applications in a cloud environment.
You possess excellent problem-solving skills and can effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product and design, to deliver high-quality user experiences. Your ability to communicate technical concepts clearly makes you a valuable asset in discussions about system architecture and design.
You are passionate about improving developer experience and have a track record of implementing best practices in software development, including strong ADR governance and data synchronization strategies. You thrive in environments that encourage innovation and continuous improvement.
Desirable
Experience with serverless architectures and MACH principles is a plus, as is familiarity with modern frontend frameworks like Next.js. You are always eager to learn new technologies and methodologies that can enhance your team's productivity and the quality of the products you deliver.
What you'll do
As a Staff Engineer at MOO, you will play a pivotal role in the eCommerce engineering group, focusing on the pre-order domain that powers browsing, buying, and account experiences for customers worldwide. You will lead the migration from legacy PHP and Java services to a MACH-aligned, cloud-native stack on AWS, ensuring a smooth transition that minimizes disruption to users.
You will work closely with various squads, including Browse, Upper Funnel Optimization, Build, Buy, and User Engagement, to implement features that enhance the customer journey. Your responsibilities will include designing and developing scalable backend services, optimizing performance, and ensuring high availability of the eCommerce platform.
You will also be involved in improving the developer experience by advocating for best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment processes. Collaborating with product managers and designers, you will help define the technical roadmap and contribute to the overall strategy for the eCommerce platform.
What we offer
MOO offers a dynamic work environment where innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will directly impact the customer experience. You will be part of a diverse team that values collaboration and creativity, working together to create print and digital products for a wide range of clients.
We provide opportunities for professional growth and development, ensuring that you have the resources and support needed to excel in your role. Our culture emphasizes teamwork, and we believe that great ideas can come from anyone, regardless of their position.
Join us in Cape Town, where you will have the chance to work in a vibrant city while being part of a global team that is reshaping the print industry. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective could be just what we need.
