You are currently pursuing a PhD in a technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Statistics, and you are expected to graduate in December 2026, Summer 2027, or later. You thrive in complex environments and have strong software development skills, feeling comfortable with software engineering best practices. Your ability to communicate effectively across written and verbal mediums sets you apart, as you articulate your ideas clearly to diverse audiences. You are returning to school for at least one semester or quarter after the Summer internship, ensuring your commitment to your academic journey.
Desirable
Experience with machine learning models and video encoding techniques is a plus, as is familiarity with video formats like AV1, HEVC, and H.264. You have a keen interest in improving video quality through innovative approaches and are eager to apply your knowledge in a practical setting. Your adaptability and willingness to learn will help you excel in this internship.
What you'll do
As a Video Algorithms Intern, you will actively develop machine-learning-based models aimed at improving the quality of encoded video. Your work will focus on reducing data size while minimizing undesirable artifacts that occur at mid and low bitrates. You will curate a content database and leverage it to obtain production-ready ML models that enhance non-pristine input content, ensuring it can be used promptly in the encoding pipeline. Collaborating with the Video Algorithm team, you will contribute to projects that have a significant impact on the viewing experience of Netflix's global audience.
