Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building and managing cloud-based architectures. You understand the intricacies of deploying and securing infrastructure that supports millions of users and billions of requests daily. Your expertise in containerization and serverless architectures allows you to design systems that are both scalable and efficient.

You possess deep knowledge of AWS and have experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices. You are familiar with tools like Terraform and CDK, which you use to manage cloud resources effectively. Your experience with Kubernetes enables you to create and manage clusters that can handle high traffic and ensure high availability.

You are comfortable working with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana, which help you maintain system health and performance. Your ability to write code for infrastructure management, including database provisioning and data pipelines, sets you apart as a well-rounded engineer.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. Your strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail ensure that you can tackle complex challenges head-on.

Desirable

Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like ArgoCD is a plus, as is familiarity with logging and monitoring solutions. You may also have experience with other cloud providers or open-source technologies that enhance your skill set.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Nextdoor, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable cloud infrastructure that supports our platform's growth. You will work on modernizing our Infrastructure as Code practices, leveraging tools like CDK and Pulumi to manage AWS resources efficiently. Your role will involve creating and maintaining Kubernetes clusters, ensuring they are optimized for performance and reliability.

You will collaborate with other engineers to build and deploy applications that serve our community. Your expertise in Docker will be crucial as you containerize applications and manage their lifecycle. You will also implement monitoring solutions using Prometheus and Grafana to ensure our systems are running smoothly and to proactively address any issues that arise.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow in their roles. You will participate in code reviews, ensuring that best practices are followed and that our codebase remains robust and maintainable.
