Who you are
You have a strong technical background in distributed systems and cloud computing, with a proven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams. Your experience includes building and operating large-scale production platforms, ensuring reliability and performance under pressure. You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with product and infrastructure partners.
You have a deep understanding of operational rigor, including setting service level objectives (SLOs), incident response strategies, and capacity planning. Your leadership style focuses on empowering your team, fostering a culture of accountability, and driving continuous improvement in processes and systems.
What you'll do
As the Engineering Manager for Core Services, you will lead a team responsible for developing and maintaining foundational production systems that support OpenAI's product engineering teams. You will collaborate closely with senior engineering leaders to define technical direction and drive major platform initiatives. Your role will involve managing the team's performance, conducting regular one-on-ones, and supporting career development for your engineers.
You will oversee the building and operation of mission-critical distributed systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. This includes managing cluster reliability, scaling systems effectively, and implementing rollout safety measures. You will also be responsible for setting the technical direction for platform foundations, including workflow and orchestration capabilities.
