Overview

OpenAI is seeking a Security Engineer to join their Infrastructure Security team. You'll design and build security controls across diverse layers to protect OpenAI’s research and production environments. This role requires expertise in Kubernetes, AWS, and security best practices.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in security engineering, with experience in designing and implementing security controls across various infrastructure layers. Your expertise includes physical hardware, firmware, operating systems, and cloud environments, particularly with Kubernetes and AWS. You understand the complexities of securing multi-cloud infrastructures and have a solid grasp of networking principles and security protocols.

You are proficient in using tools like Docker and Terraform to automate security processes and enhance infrastructure security. Your experience with CI/CD pipelines allows you to integrate security practices seamlessly into development workflows. You are familiar with the latest security threats and have a proactive approach to mitigating risks.

You possess excellent collaboration skills, enabling you to work effectively with engineering and security teams to drive security enhancements across broad-scale infrastructure. Your ability to communicate complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders is a key asset in your role.

You are committed to fostering a robust security culture within the organization, prioritizing impact and enabling researchers to innovate securely. You are adaptable and prepared to tackle high-impact projects that require creative problem-solving and technical expertise.

Desirable

Experience with advanced security practices such as checkpoint encryption, network isolation, and secret management is a plus. Familiarity with machine identity management and insider threat detection will enhance your contributions to the team.

What you'll do

As a Security Engineer at OpenAI, you will design and build security controls that protect the foundations of our research and production environments. This includes securing GPU supercomputing clusters, multi-cloud infrastructure, and critical services that power our AI models. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy security enhancements and control changes, ensuring that our infrastructure remains resilient against sophisticated adversaries.

You will tackle high-impact projects that involve implementing security measures across various layers, from bare-metal hardware to Kubernetes clusters. Your role will require you to continuously assess and improve security practices, adapting to new threats and technologies as they emerge.
