You'll work with SQL and PostgreSQL to build resilient systems that drive pricing decisions. This role requires strong backend engineering experience and collaboration with data scientists and product managers.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have a track record of improving system reliability and performance. Your expertise in SQL and PostgreSQL allows you to design data models and write high-performance queries over large datasets, ensuring that data integrity and speed are maintained.

You are proficient in API design and have experience architecting integrations with complex platforms — you understand the importance of creating robust APIs that facilitate seamless interactions between services. Your ability to lead technical design reviews and set best practices for code quality, testing, and observability is a key asset to your team.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with data scientists and machine learning engineers to productionize pricing models and build model-serving pipelines. Your mentorship skills help grow the technical capabilities of your team, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Pricing team, you will own the design, implementation, and evolution of core pricing services that are critical to Opendoor's business. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn ideas into resilient, production-ready systems that can handle high volumes of data and transactions.

You will design data models and write high-performance SQL queries over large PostgreSQL datasets, ensuring that our pricing algorithms are both accurate and efficient. Your role will involve architecting and improving APIs and integrations with Opendoor’s core marketplace platform, enhancing the overall functionality and user experience.

You will lead technical design reviews, setting best practices for code quality, testing, and observability, while driving reliability, latency, and scalability improvements across pricing systems. Your contributions will have a direct impact on how Opendoor prices homes, influencing the company's ability to operate effectively in the real estate market.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will mentor other engineers, helping them grow their skills and advance their careers. You will be an integral part of a team that values collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to excellence in software engineering.
