Optiver is seeking a Software Engineer (Data) to support and advance the data needs of their local research team in Sydney. You'll work with Python and SQL to productionise workflows and optimise large-scale data processing.

You have a strong background in software engineering with a focus on data — your experience includes optimising large-scale data processing and managing infrastructure costs effectively. You are comfortable working independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment where impactful results are essential. Your expertise in data engineering concepts allows you to collaborate effectively with researchers and other teams to deliver solutions that meet their needs.
You possess deep knowledge of programming languages, particularly Python, and have experience with SQL for data manipulation and analysis. Your ability to understand complex data workflows and translate them into efficient processes is a key strength. You are proactive in identifying areas for improvement and are committed to delivering high-quality results.

What you'll do
In this role, you will support the local research team by advancing their data needs — this includes productionising workflows and optimising data processing tasks. You will collaborate closely with both local and global teams to ensure that data solutions are aligned with research objectives. Your responsibilities will involve managing infrastructure costs efficiently while ensuring that data workflows are robust and scalable.
You will be tasked with developing and maintaining data pipelines that facilitate the flow of information across various systems. This will require you to leverage your programming skills to create efficient and reliable data processing solutions. You will also be involved in troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise in the data workflows, ensuring minimal disruption to research activities.
As part of your role, you will engage in regular communication with researchers to understand their data requirements and provide tailored solutions. You will also participate in team meetings to discuss project progress and share insights on data-related challenges and opportunities.
