Job Description
Who you are
You are a data engineer with proven experience in building data systems and processes — you thrive on solving complex problems and have a solid track record of delivering scalable solutions. Your technical proficiency with data engineering tools, data warehouses, and data lakes sets you apart in the field. You possess strong programming skills in Java or Python, allowing you to tackle various challenges in data management effectively.
You embrace ambiguity and are curious about finding patterns in complex environments — your tenacity drives you to seek out innovative solutions to data-related challenges. You have excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability, which are crucial in a dynamic tech landscape. Your experience with data validation, transformation, and compliance ensures that you maintain high standards in your work.
Desirable
Bonus points if you have experience with Snowflake or Databricks — familiarity with AWS is also a plus. Prior startup experience can give you an edge in understanding the fast-paced environment at Protege.
What you'll do
As a Data Engineer at Protege, you will work closely with the engineering team to design and implement scalable, automatable, and robust data orchestration and lineage processes. Your role will involve optimizing data storage and retrieval costs, making data operations more efficient and cost-effective. You will also contribute as a generalist engineer, helping to build other areas of the Protege platform, which is focused on solving the biggest unmet need in AI — access to the right training data.
You will be responsible for ensuring high standards of data validation and transformation, which are critical for maintaining the integrity and compliance of the data you handle. Your work will directly impact the efficiency of data operations, allowing the company to leverage AI training data effectively. You will collaborate with other engineers to enhance the platform's capabilities, ensuring that it meets the needs of ambitious teams in AI.
What we offer
At Protege, you will be part of a lean, fast-moving, high-trust team of builders who are obsessed with velocity and impact. Our culture is designed for individuals who thrive on ambiguity and want to shape the future of data and AI. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your curiosity and tenacity are what we value most. Join us in this generational opportunity to solve AI's data problem and make a significant impact in the tech industry.
