Skydio is hiring an Autonomy Simulation & Tools Engineer to develop simulation and log visualization tools for autonomous flight systems. You'll work with Python, C++, and Docker to enhance internal platforms. This position requires experience in software engineering and a strong understanding of simulation technologies.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in software engineering, particularly in developing simulation and visualization tools — your experience includes building systems that support complex interactions between software and hardware. You are proficient in Python and C++, and you understand the intricacies of backend systems as well as front-end visualization techniques. Your passion for enabling others through effective tooling drives you to create user-friendly platforms that enhance developer experience.
You have experience working with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, which allows you to expand simulation capabilities and support various vehicle types and environmental conditions. You are familiar with containerization technologies like Docker, which you use to streamline development processes and ensure consistency across environments. Your problem-solving skills enable you to diagnose system behaviors and improve the efficiency of testing and validation processes.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead the development of simulation platforms that support the autonomy lifecycle — your work will involve expanding internal capabilities to accommodate a growing range of use cases, from early prototyping to continuous testing. You will design and build log playback and analysis tools that allow engineers to replay recorded system behaviors, providing critical insights into system performance. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency of autonomy developers and test engineers, enabling them to iterate and validate their work effectively.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including autonomy developers and test engineers, to understand their needs and translate them into effective tooling solutions. Your role will require you to stay updated on the latest advancements in simulation technologies and apply them to enhance the tools you develop. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
