Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in interior design, with experience leading projects from concept to execution — your portfolio showcases your ability to create cohesive and innovative design solutions that enhance user experience. You are skilled in spatial planning and can effectively coordinate with stakeholders to define project requirements and evaluate feasibility. Your attention to detail is evident in your ability to produce high-quality design development documents, presentations, and material palettes that communicate design intent clearly.
You are proficient in using AutoCAD and other design software to create detailed drawings, elevations, sections, and specifications — your technical skills allow you to manage the procurement and installation of design elements seamlessly. You understand the importance of maintaining brand consistency and are adept at preparing cohesive design standards for sitewide development. Your collaborative spirit enables you to work effectively with cross-departmental teams, ensuring that all functional and utility needs are met in your designs.
Desirable
Experience with sustainable design practices or knowledge of the aerospace industry would be a plus — you are open to learning and adapting to the unique challenges presented by the SpaceX environment. A strong aesthetic sense and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously will set you apart in this role.
What you'll do
As a Spaceport Designer at SpaceX, you will lead the interior design efforts for the Starbase campus, ensuring that the aesthetic vision aligns with the company's mission to enable human life on Mars. You will coordinate with various stakeholders to gather project requirements and perform spatial planning to optimize the use of space. Your role will involve preparing comprehensive design development documents and presentations that effectively communicate your design intent to both internal teams and external partners.
You will produce detailed drawings and specifications, paying close attention to the quality and accuracy of your work. Managing the procurement process and overseeing the installation of design elements will be key responsibilities, as you ensure that all aspects of the design are executed to the highest standards. You will also compile a database of existing finishes and FF&E specifications, managing the color and material studio to maintain a cohesive design language throughout the campus.
Collaboration will be at the heart of your role — you will partner with engineers and construction project managers across multiple disciplines to define requirements and derive design details that meet functional and utility needs. Your ability to manage all phases of projects will be crucial as you guide them from concept development through to execution, ensuring that the final outcomes reflect the innovative spirit of SpaceX.
