SpaceX is hiring a Senior Structures Analyst to develop guidance and structural analysis tools for their vehicle engineering team. You'll perform structural analysis using FEA and CAD modeling. This role requires 5+ years of experience in structural analysis.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, math, or physics discipline and over 5 years of professional experience in structural analysis. Your expertise includes using commercial FEA or multi-physics simulation packages like ABAQUS and ANSYS, and you are skilled in performing both finite element modeling and hand calculations. You have a strong understanding of load paths and can conduct preliminary sizing of structures using both metallic and composite materials. Your experience includes developing guidance and structural analysis tools that are utilized company-wide, and you are comfortable training other engineers on these methods and tools.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with teams to perform rapid conceptual design, analysis, and testing cycles on development hardware. Your proficiency in CAD modeling and FEA modeling and analysis allows you to contribute effectively to the engineering team. You are detail-oriented and have a strong ability to perform peer reviews of models, analysis, and tests, ensuring high-quality outputs.

Desirable

Experience with advanced structural analysis techniques and tools is a plus. Familiarity with aerospace materials and structures will enhance your contributions to the team. You are proactive in seeking out new methods and technologies to improve structural analysis processes and tools.

What you'll do

As a Senior Structures Analyst at SpaceX, you will be responsible for developing guidance and structural analysis tools that will be used across the company. You will ensure that key stakeholders are engaged with these methods and tools, providing training to other engineers as necessary. Your role will involve performing structural analysis of primary and secondary structures, which includes both finite element modeling and hand calculations. You will develop load paths and conduct preliminary sizing of structures, utilizing both metallic and composite materials.

You will collaborate with your team to perform rapid conceptual design, analysis, and testing cycles on development hardware. This may involve CAD modeling, FEA modeling and analysis, and oversight of testing processes. You will also be responsible for conducting peer reviews of models, analysis, and tests to maintain the highest standards of quality in your work. Your contributions will be instrumental in advancing SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars through the development of reusable launch vehicles and spacecraft.
