Who you are
You have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on designing and building flight hardware. Your experience includes developing design concepts from scratch and sizing vehicle structures based on flight loads. You are comfortable collaborating with peers from different vehicle systems to create designs that balance mass, cost, and capability. You have hands-on experience with CAD software, particularly NX, and are skilled in creating detailed designs for components and assemblies.
You possess expertise in finite element analysis, allowing you to build models that assess the integrity of your designs. You are eager to take ownership of hardware projects and are ready to make real-time decisions in a fast-paced environment. Your problem-solving skills enable you to tackle complex engineering challenges effectively, and you thrive in a collaborative team setting.
Desirable
Experience with sheet metal and subassembly design and fabrication is a plus. Familiarity with aerospace engineering principles and practices will enhance your ability to contribute to the Starship project. You are passionate about space exploration and are motivated by the mission of making humanity multi-planetary.
What you'll do
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for designing and building critical flight hardware components such as propellant tanks and structural subassemblies. You will develop design concepts from a clean sheet, ensuring that your designs meet the rigorous demands of spaceflight. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will create detailed CAD models in NX and generate finite element models to analyze the performance of your designs.
You will be empowered to make real-time decisions and solve complex problems on the fly, taking ownership of the end-to-end design process. Your role will involve assessing designs to ensure they meet the needs of the vehicle and contribute to the overall success of the Starship program. You will work closely with production teams to ensure that your designs are manufacturable and can be produced efficiently.
