Job Description
Who you are
You hold a Bachelor's degree in materials science and have experience in developing and optimizing thermal protection systems. You are skilled in designing and testing materials, particularly in the context of aerospace applications. Your creativity and problem-solving abilities enable you to develop novel solutions for spacecraft reusability. You are comfortable collaborating with design and production engineers to improve production design processes. You can manage multiple priorities while maintaining a focus on project goals, ensuring that all tasks align with the overarching objectives of the team.
What you'll do
As a Thermal Protection Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for developing and executing experiments, procedures, and tests on developmental components. You will design and develop thermal protection hardware that optimizes the vehicle's heat shield, focusing on material properties and cost reduction. Your role will involve operating and using ceramic and chemical lab tools and equipment, as well as collaborating with process engineers to develop scalable production solutions. You will work closely with engineering staff from various departments and highly skilled technicians, ensuring that all aspects of the thermal protection system are integrated effectively. You will also manage and track multiple priorities, maintaining a clear focus on common project goals as the team works towards establishing aircraft-like operations on the Starship.
