You have 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of building and optimizing data pipelines that support analytics and data science initiatives. Your technical expertise includes designing scalable ETL processes and data models that enhance decision-making across the organization. You thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and accessibility. As a leader, you foster a culture of technical excellence and ownership within your team, guiding them to achieve their best work. You are comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on contributions, ensuring that your team meets its goals while also driving innovation in data practices.
Desirable
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP is a plus, as is familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker. You understand the importance of data governance and have implemented best practices in previous roles. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders sets you apart, enabling you to advocate for data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
What you'll do
In this role, you will act as the player-coach for the Data Engineering function, defining the long-term vision and technical roadmap for Stravaβs core data platform. You will lead initiatives to develop scalable, robust, and efficient ETL/ELT pipelines that support the needs of the business. Collaborating closely with Analytics and Data Science teams, you will ensure that data is accessible and actionable, driving insights that benefit both athletes and the business. You will also be responsible for mentoring and developing your team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing the design and implementation of data models that support various business functions, ensuring data quality and consistency across systems. You will drive the adoption of best practices in data engineering, including code reviews, testing, and documentation. Additionally, you will work with stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements, ensuring that the data infrastructure aligns with business goals.
