Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong background in building and optimizing data pipelines and models. Your expertise in AWS and Apache Spark allows you to design systems that handle massive volumes of data securely and efficiently. You understand the importance of compliance and security standards, ensuring that sensitive information is protected while enabling product innovation.

You are proficient in Python and SQL, which you use to manipulate and analyze data from various sources, including sensors, workouts, and health integrations. Your collaborative nature allows you to work effectively with cross-functional teams, translating complex data needs into actionable solutions. You are detail-oriented and have a strong focus on establishing best practices for data management, including access controls and encryption.

Desirable

Experience with data governance and regulatory compliance is a plus, as is familiarity with health-related data management. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and are eager to contribute to a mission-driven company that values innovation and data-driven decision-making.

What you'll do

As a Staff Data Engineer at Tonal, you will be responsible for architecting and scaling data systems that support the company's growth. You will build and optimize data models and pipelines that integrate diverse data sources, ensuring they meet regulatory standards. Your role will involve establishing controls for access, encryption, and monitoring, as well as defining best practices for managing sensitive data, including PHI and PII.

You will collaborate closely with teams across Product, Engineering, Sports Science, and Healthcare to translate their needs into robust data solutions. Your work will directly impact how Tonal leverages data to enhance user experiences and drive product innovation. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of data excellence within the team.
