Overview
Tonal is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to drive causal and machine learning-based analyses that measure the impact of product features on user behavior and business outcomes. You'll work closely with product and analytics engineering teams, utilizing skills in Python and SQL. This role requires strong statistical judgment and experience in product-driven machine learning.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, specializing in causal inference and machine learning. Your strong statistical judgment allows you to design and implement rigorous causal analyses that quantify the impact of product features on user behaviors and engagement metrics. You are adept at translating complex results into clear, actionable recommendations that inform product strategy and marketing decisions.
You possess a deep understanding of product-driven machine learning and have experience building production-ready analytical workflows. Your collaborative nature enables you to partner effectively with product teams, analytics engineers, and fellow data scientists to develop in-house causal inference tools and define key performance indicators (KPIs).
Your technical skills include proficiency in Python and SQL, which you leverage to build reproducible and scalable analytical notebooks and workflows. You are familiar with experimental and observational methods, and you apply regression and machine learning approaches to control for confounding factors and heterogeneity in your analyses.
You are committed to delivering insights that are trustworthy and immediately usable by cross-functional stakeholders. Your experience includes validating causal findings through robustness checks and sensitivity analyses, ensuring that your recommendations are grounded in solid statistical principles.
Desirable
Experience with data visualization tools and techniques is a plus, as you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, governed visualizations that communicate your findings effectively. Familiarity with business performance metrics and the ability to articulate assumptions and limitations of your analyses will further enhance your contributions to the team.
What you'll do
In this role, you will drive causal and machine learning-based analyses to measure the impact of product features on user behavior and business outcomes. You will design, implement, and productionalize statistically rigorous causal analyses that quantify the effects of product interventions on engagement metrics and overall business performance. Your work will involve developing and maintaining causal frameworks that link product changes to behavioral shifts, ensuring that your analyses are both comprehensive and actionable.
You will select and apply appropriate experimental and observational methods, leveraging regression and machine learning techniques to control for confounding variables. Your ability to validate causal findings through robustness checks and sensitivity analyses will be crucial in ensuring the reliability of your insights. You will translate complex results into clear recommendations that inform product strategy and executive-level prioritization.
Collaboration will be key in this role, as you will partner closely with product teams, analytics engineering, and other data scientists to build in-house causal inference tools. You will also define KPIs that align with business objectives and contribute to the development of analytical workflows that are reproducible and scalable.
What we offer
Tonal offers a dynamic work environment where you can make a significant impact on product development and user engagement. You will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about leveraging data to drive business outcomes. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
We provide competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. Join us at Tonal and help shape the future of our products through data-driven insights.
