Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in engineering management, particularly in overseeing large-scale infrastructure projects. Your background includes a strong understanding of stateful systems and database engines, enabling you to lead teams effectively in optimizing performance and reliability.
You possess deep expertise in Go and have experience with containerization technologies like Docker. Your familiarity with distributed systems, including databases such as MySQL and Redis, equips you to tackle complex challenges in system architecture and deployment.
You are skilled in automation and have a proven track record of implementing processes that enhance operational efficiency. Your leadership style emphasizes collaboration and mentorship, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within your team.
You understand the importance of high availability and low-cost solutions in a cloud environment, having worked with platforms like AWS and GCP. Your ability to manage resources effectively ensures that your team can scale operations seamlessly across multiple geographical regions.
Desirable
Experience with messaging systems like Kafka and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes would be a plus. Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools can enhance your ability to maintain system health and performance.
What you'll do
As the Engineering Manager II for the Stateful Platform team, you will lead a diverse group of engineers in building and maintaining Uber's infrastructure for database engines and stateful systems. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the deployment and operation of MySQL, Redis, ZooKeeper, Kafka, and HDFS, ensuring that these systems run efficiently and reliably at scale.
You will drive initiatives to automate operational processes, aiming for a fully self-healing system that minimizes the need for on-call interventions. Your role will involve collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to optimize scheduling, host lifecycle processes, and resource forecasting.
You will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, providing guidance on best practices in coding, testing, and system design. Your leadership will help cultivate a team environment that values innovation and encourages engineers to share their ideas and solutions.
You will also be tasked with managing the infrastructure that supports close to 100,000 hosts and millions of containers, ensuring that all changes are automated and peer-reviewed. Your strategic vision will help extend integrations with various database engines, enhancing fleet-wide efficiency.
