Unity is hiring a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to guide the architecture and design of distributed systems for their Ads Infrastructure team. You'll work with technologies like Kubernetes, Kafka, and cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure. This position requires 7+ years of experience in building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 7 or more years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production — you've navigated the complexities of ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency in your projects. Your programming experience for backend service and infrastructure development is extensive, and you are hands-on with Kubernetes and cloud-native systems in GCP, AWS, or Azure.
Your expertise in distributed infrastructure includes traffic management, load balancing, networking, and large-scale data processing — you understand the intricacies of these systems and how to optimize them for performance. You have a deep understanding of operational excellence, focusing on improved observability, resiliency, and automation in your work.
You are passionate about mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, and engineering best practices — you thrive in environments where you can share your knowledge and help others grow. Your ability to advise leadership on platform direction and long-term investment in emerging infrastructure technologies sets you apart as a leader in your field.
What you'll do
In this role, you will guide the architecture and low-level design of distributed systems to ensure they meet the demands of a global advertising platform. You will own and operate infrastructure services alongside engineering teams, taking on on-call responsibilities and diving deep into debugging complex issues as they arise. Your focus will be on driving operational excellence through improved observability and automation, ensuring that the systems are resilient and cost-efficient.
You will mentor engineers, helping them to elevate their skills and understanding of best practices in infrastructure development. Your insights will be invaluable as you advise leadership on the direction of the platform and the adoption of new technologies that can enhance performance and scalability. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, ensuring that the infrastructure supports the developers, data scientists, and product teams driving Unity Ads forward.
What we offer
Unity provides a dynamic work environment where innovation is encouraged and supported. You will have the opportunity to work on one of the largest real-time advertising platforms in the world, contributing to systems that impact millions of users globally. The role offers competitive compensation, including a salary range of $202,800—$304,200 USD, reflecting your experience and expertise in the field. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
