Overview

Vana is hiring a Data Scientist focused on fraud prevention to design and develop models that identify fraudulent behavior. You'll work with large datasets and apply machine learning techniques. This role requires experience in fintech or related industries.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in data science with a focus on fraud prevention — your expertise lies in designing and developing models that identify anomalous behavior and suspicious transactions. You are skilled in working with large datasets and applying both supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques to enhance fraud detection systems. Your understanding of imbalanced classification problems and feature engineering is solid, allowing you to adapt models to evolving user behavior and new fraud strategies.

You possess strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset — you excel at extracting actionable insights from data, which is crucial in the fintech industry. While experience in fintech, banking, or insurance is desirable, your ability to leverage non-traditional data sources will set you apart. You are comfortable with AWS services, which is a plus for this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will explore large-scale transactional and behavioral datasets to uncover patterns associated with fraud. Your responsibilities will include building and validating classification models using machine learning techniques tailored to imbalanced problems, such as distinguishing between fraud and non-fraud cases. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen our fraud detection systems and automate decision-making processes.

You will continuously monitor and adapt models to ensure they remain effective against evolving fraud strategies. Your insights will directly impact the development of consumer financing solutions that empower users by providing convenient access to loans through our Android application. You will also contribute to the overall mission of Vana by addressing the significant market demand for quick and affordable credit access in Latin America.

What we offer

At Vana, you will be part of a dynamic team that is committed to making a difference in the fintech space. We offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions will be valued. You will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects that leverage cutting-edge technology and data science methodologies. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
