Who you are

5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of security-focused applications. You have a strong foundation in Java and Python, enabling you to create robust and scalable backend solutions that support high-volume API calls and data processing.

Deep understanding of REST API design and implementation — you've built APIs that handle millions of requests and understand the importance of security and compliance in software development. Your experience includes working with security monitoring tools and frameworks, ensuring that applications meet compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA, and ISO 27001.

You thrive in collaborative environments, mentoring junior engineers and leading technical discussions — your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly helps foster a culture of learning and growth within your team. You are proactive in identifying potential security threats and implementing solutions to mitigate risks.

Desirable

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is a plus, as is familiarity with continuous integration and deployment practices. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and are eager to contribute to the continuous improvement of Vanta's security platform.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Identity team at Vanta, you will be responsible for setting the technical direction of our security platform. You will drive complex projects that enhance our infrastructure, ensuring it can scale with our growing customer base. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and implement high-value products that empower businesses to maintain and demonstrate their trust.

You will lead the development of backend services that monitor security postures for thousands of companies, processing tens of millions of API calls daily. Your expertise will guide the team in building a robust architecture that supports real-time data analysis and threat detection. You will also mentor and support your fellow engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow in their roles.
