Venn is seeking a Head of Engineering to build and mentor a high-performing engineering team while contributing to the codebase and architecture. Who you are
You have a strong background in engineering leadership, with experience building and mentoring high-performing teams. You understand the importance of setting a high technical bar across reliability, scalability, and security, and you are comfortable contributing directly to the codebase and architecture. Your excellent communication and organizational skills enable you to manage sprint capacity effectively and ensure high-velocity, high-quality delivery.
You have experience working in fast-growing startups or fintech environments, and you are familiar with payment products such as card issuing, money transfers, and lending. You thrive in collaborative settings, working closely with product, operations, and go-to-market teams to understand customer needs and drive technical execution.

You have a breadth of experience across various infrastructure, languages, and stacks, which allows you to adapt and lead initiatives effectively. Your familiarity with modern banking solutions and your passion for disrupting traditional banking practices make you an ideal fit for this role.
What you'll do
As the Head of Engineering at Venn, you will help build and level up a high-performing engineering team through mentorship, pairing, design discussions, and thoughtful code reviews. You will contribute directly to the codebase and architecture, ensuring that the team maintains a high technical standard across all projects. Your role will involve taking an active part in technical execution across backend systems and infrastructure while shaping the longer-term direction as the team scales.
You will own the operational excellence of your group, managing sprint capacity, removing blockers, and ensuring that the team delivers high-quality results at a fast pace. You will also contribute to the development of core financial products such as payments, cards, FX, and lending, stepping in to lead initiatives when necessary to ensure execution quality.
Collaboration will be key in this role, as you will work closely with product, operations, and go-to-market teams to understand real customer needs and translate them into actionable engineering tasks. Your leadership will be crucial in driving the team towards achieving Venn's mission of transforming business banking for Canadian entrepreneurs.
