Job Description
Who you are
You have extensive experience in data engineering, with a strong background in building scalable data platforms that support both batch and real-time workloads. Your expertise in designing streaming and event-driven systems using Kafka and related tools sets you apart. You understand the importance of data quality, security, and governance, and you have a proven track record of implementing best practices in these areas.
You are a hands-on engineer who enjoys writing production-grade code while also taking on technical leadership responsibilities. You have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and leadership, to define data strategy and align it with product goals. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly makes you an effective partner in driving data initiatives forward.
You are familiar with modern lakehouse architectures and have experience with technologies like Iceberg for storage and governance. You are passionate about enabling real-time analytics and future AI/ML capabilities, and you are excited about the opportunity to shape the data ecosystem at Vercel.
Desirable
Experience with additional data technologies and frameworks is a plus, as is familiarity with cloud platforms and their data services. You are always eager to learn and adapt to new technologies that can enhance data processing and analytics capabilities.
What you'll do
In this role, you will architect and build a scalable data platform that supports both batch and real-time workloads. You will design and implement streaming and event-driven systems using Kafka, ensuring that data flows seamlessly across the organization. Your work will enable real-time analytics and observability, allowing teams to make data-driven decisions effectively.
You will partner with engineering, product, and leadership to define the data strategy and technical direction for Vercel's data ecosystem. Establishing best practices for data ingestion, modeling, storage, quality, and security will be a key part of your responsibilities. You will also mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.
Your role will involve writing production-grade code and ensuring that the systems you build are robust, scalable, and maintainable. You will be responsible for aligning data initiatives with product and engineering goals, ensuring that the data platform supports the company's mission to enable developers to ship the best products.
