Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in leading teams and delivering high-quality products. Your technical expertise includes working with embedded systems and cloud-based architectures, and you are comfortable navigating both hardware and software challenges. You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with product and hardware managers to define product offerings. You are passionate about mentoring engineers and fostering a collaborative team environment, ensuring that your team is empowered to succeed.

Your experience with Linux-based systems is extensive, and you have a solid understanding of the UEFI, bootloader, and drivers. You are familiar with building custom Linux OS distributions using the Yocto Project and have hands-on experience with containerization technologies. Your knowledge of scalable cloud backends, particularly with services built in Go and Python, allows you to contribute to the architectural decisions that shape the product's future.

Desirable

Experience with video streaming technologies and microservices architecture is a plus. Familiarity with solid-state and hard disk storage systems, as well as filesystem and block device mapping, will help you excel in this role. You are also open to learning new technologies and adapting to the evolving needs of the product and team.

What you'll do

As the Engineering Manager for the Cameras team at Verkada, you will lead a talented group of engineers in developing innovative solutions for cloud physical security. You will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from conceptualization to deployment, ensuring that your team delivers high-impact features that meet customer needs. You will work closely with product and hardware managers to define the product roadmap and make critical architectural decisions that align with the company's vision.

Your role will involve hands-on technical leadership, where you will guide your team in implementing best practices for software development, including code reviews, testing strategies, and production monitoring. You will be responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, encouraging your team to share knowledge and learn from one another.

In addition to managing the engineering team, you will also engage with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on product goals and timelines. You will participate in strategic discussions about the product's direction and contribute to the overall success of Verkada's mission to enhance safety and efficiency through integrated security solutions.
