Overview
Waabi is seeking a 2026 Intern, PhD Research Scientist to contribute to AI research projects focused on self-driving technology. You'll work with algorithms related to perception, prediction, and motion planning, utilizing skills in Python and C++.

Who you are
You are currently pursuing a PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, AI, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, or a similar technical field. You have a strong foundation in reading and coding in Python and/or C++, which will be essential for your contributions to the team. You are open-minded and a collaborative team player, eager to help others and share knowledge. Your passion for self-driving technologies drives you to solve complex problems and create innovative solutions that can impact the world positively.
Desirable
Experience with AI research or projects related to autonomous vehicles would be a plus, as well as familiarity with machine learning frameworks and tools. You are encouraged to have a proactive approach to learning and development, seeking opportunities to expand your skill set and contribute to the field.
What you'll do
As an intern at Waabi, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of Research Scientists and Engineers, utilizing an AI-first approach to enable safe self-driving at scale. You will lead or contribute to AI research projects, pushing the frontiers of the field by developing new algorithms for Autonomous Vehicles. This includes working on topics such as perception, prediction, motion planning, controls, simulation, mapping, localization, and core AI. You will design, implement, train, and optimize novel algorithms on self-driving vehicles and various production systems, ensuring they meet the high standards required for real-world applications.
You will have the opportunity to submit and publish your work externally at top machine learning, computer vision, and robotics conferences such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, and CVPR. This role will allow you to gain valuable experience in a cutting-edge field while contributing to Waabi's mission of bringing self-driving technology closer to commercialization.
