You have 5+ years of experience in data science, particularly in evaluating complex systems and ensuring their performance meets rigorous safety standards. Your background includes a strong foundation in statistical analysis and machine learning, allowing you to derive actionable insights from large datasets. You are proficient in Python and SQL, enabling you to manipulate and analyze data effectively. Your experience includes developing and deploying evaluation methodologies that enhance the rigor of performance assessments. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineering teams to provide the necessary tools for continuous improvement. You are detail-oriented and understand the importance of safety in autonomous driving technology, ensuring that all evaluations meet strict compliance requirements.
Desirable
Experience with autonomous systems or related fields is a plus, as is familiarity with data visualization tools that help communicate insights effectively. A background in behavioral evaluation or safety-critical systems will set you apart. You are comfortable working in a hybrid environment, balancing remote work with in-office collaboration.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead a specialized data science team tasked with providing early insights into the behavioral performance of new hardware platforms and territories. You will develop statistical methodologies that bolster the rigor of evaluations, ensuring that the Waymo Driver meets its ambitious safety and performance goals. Collaborating closely with the Onboard engineering team, you will ensure they have the evaluation tools necessary to iterate and improve driving behavior across various contexts. Your work will directly impact the safety and quality of the Waymo Driver, contributing to the mission of improving mobility access and saving lives. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and innovation within your team. Regularly, you will present findings to stakeholders, translating complex data insights into understandable recommendations that drive decision-making.

Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $281,000—$356,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
