Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in machine learning, particularly in designing and implementing solutions for complex systems. Your expertise includes working with Python and TensorFlow, and you have a strong understanding of reinforcement learning techniques. You are comfortable with data-driven approaches and have experience in auto-labeling training data and adding reasoning logic into ML models. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in autonomous vehicle technology.

You have a solid foundation in data introspection and evaluation, enabling you to understand and improve the performance of machine learning models. Your analytical mindset allows you to tackle challenges effectively, and you are always looking for ways to enhance the Waymo Driver's capabilities. You are passionate about the impact of autonomous driving technology and are eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale data processing and evaluation techniques is a plus. Familiarity with deep learning frameworks beyond TensorFlow, such as PyTorch, would be beneficial. You may also have experience in developing algorithms for real-time decision-making in autonomous systems.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design, develop, and implement machine learning solutions specifically for autonomous vehicle planning. This includes modeling, reward and loss shaping, and fine-tuning existing models to improve performance. You will work closely with the Planner Reasoning team to integrate new data-driven approaches that enhance the Waymo Driver's reasoning capabilities. Your responsibilities will also involve collaborating with other teams to ensure that the solutions you develop align with the overall architecture and goals of the Waymo Driver.

You will engage in data-driven evaluation and introspection, allowing you to assess the effectiveness of the models you create. This will involve analyzing large datasets and deriving insights that can inform future iterations of the Waymo Driver's algorithms. You will also be responsible for documenting your work and sharing findings with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Waymo provides a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
