Who you are
You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, along with 4+ years of experience in backend development. Your expertise includes backend coding languages such as C++, Python, and Java, and you have a solid understanding of designing distributed systems. You possess strong collaboration and communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
You have professional experience developing modern C++ production software, and you are familiar with Google infrastructure tools like Borg, Protocol Buffers, and Spanner. You thrive in environments where you can tackle novel problems and contribute to mission-critical tools and systems.
Desirable
Experience with cloud-based systems and a passion for autonomous driving technology would be advantageous. You are eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies, contributing to the growth of the team and the company.
What you'll do
In this role, you will design, develop, test, and maintain C++ software systems that support real-world event and incident response. You will build and evolve mission-critical tools and systems that allow Waymo to scale and serve new markets effectively. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with Product, UX, and other engineering teams to develop systems and processes that adapt to changing business needs.
You will ship solutions to complex problems that arise in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that the Waymo Driver continues to improve access to mobility and enhance safety. Your contributions will directly impact the efficiency and reliability of the Waymo Driver, which has already provided over ten million rider-only trips.
What we offer
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and an equity incentive plan. You will also enjoy a generous benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
