Job Description
Who you are
You have a proven track record of leading engineering teams, particularly in mobile development, with a focus on both iOS and Android platforms. Your experience spans over 5 years in software engineering, where you've successfully managed cross-functional teams and driven projects from conception to deployment. You possess strong technical instincts in mobile technologies and are adept at fostering collaboration among product, design, and infrastructure teams. You thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about building high-quality mobile applications that enhance user experiences.
You understand the importance of performance and reliability in mobile applications — you've implemented best practices in mobile development and have experience with app scalability. Your leadership style emphasizes mentorship and professional growth, and you enjoy guiding your team members to achieve their full potential. You are also comfortable navigating complex technical discussions and can articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable
Experience with live shopping or e-commerce platforms would be a plus, as well as familiarity with agile methodologies. You are open to exploring innovative solutions and are excited about the future of commerce. Your ability to adapt to new technologies and trends in mobile development will be crucial in this role.
What you'll do
As the Engineering Manager for Mobile at Whatnot, you will lead a talented team responsible for the mobile foundations that power our iOS and Android applications. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to ensure our apps are not only fast and reliable but also provide a seamless user experience. Your role will involve setting the technical direction for mobile development, establishing best practices, and ensuring alignment across teams.
You will be responsible for driving the development process, from ideation through to deployment, while maintaining a focus on quality and performance. You will also play a key role in hiring and developing engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within your team. Regularly reviewing and optimizing the mobile architecture will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that our applications can scale effectively as we grow.
In addition to technical leadership, you will engage with stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into actionable engineering tasks. You will also monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to keep Whatnot at the forefront of mobile commerce. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of our mobile experience, making it a critical role within the organization.

We offer competitive compensation packages, including salary and benefits that reflect your experience and contributions. You will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid model, allowing for flexibility in your work environment while still collaborating closely with your team.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we value diverse perspectives and are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve. Join us as we redefine e-commerce and create a vibrant community for buyers and sellers alike.
