You have 4+ years of experience designing and shipping software used by real customers — you've successfully navigated the complexities of B2B SaaS and understand the nuances of user experience. Your expertise in Figma allows you to create intuitive designs that resonate with users, and you are comfortable transitioning from design to production code seamlessly. You have a strong understanding of AI chat systems and how they can enhance user interactions, ensuring that your designs are not only visually appealing but also functional and efficient.

What you'll do

As the Founding Design Engineer at Windmill, you will own critical user journeys from research to execution — mapping flows, designing in Figma, prototyping in code, and shipping reliable components. You will design and prototype AI chat experiences that enhance user engagement and streamline processes. Your role will involve shaping Slack surfaces, including messages, modals, triage flows, and notifications that users rely on daily.

You will improve key funnels such as onboarding, 1:1 prep, feedback routing, performance reviews, and calibration boards. Defining success metrics for your designs will be crucial, as you will run quick experiments and iterate based on real user data. You will work across the stack as needed to unblock great UI with simple APIs and data shapes, ensuring that the final product aligns with user needs and business goals.
