Who you are

You have extensive experience in managing data center operations, with a strong focus on electrical and mechanical systems — your expertise ensures that all equipment operates at peak efficiency, contributing to the reliability of AWS services. You are adept at planned preventative maintenance and emergency response, ensuring that critical systems remain operational under all circumstances. Your collaborative nature allows you to work effectively with engineering teams and third-party vendors, fostering a culture of safety and efficiency.

You possess a deep understanding of fire/life safety systems and their integration within data center operations — your knowledge helps maintain compliance with safety standards while optimizing operational performance. You are a problem solver at heart, capable of addressing emergent issues swiftly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to services. Your technical acumen is complemented by strong communication skills, enabling you to convey complex technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.

What you'll do

As the Data Centre Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the operational integrity of all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center — your role is crucial in maintaining the high standards expected of AWS infrastructure. You will lead a team of Engineering Operations Technicians, providing guidance and support in daily operations and maintenance tasks. Your responsibilities will include conducting regular inspections, overseeing maintenance schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

You will collaborate closely with the Data Centre Facility Manager to develop and implement operational strategies that enhance efficiency and reliability — your insights will drive improvements in processes and systems. In addition, you will be the primary point of contact for all facility operations, coordinating with third-party vendors to ensure that all services meet AWS standards. Your expertise will be vital in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, ensuring that all systems function optimally.
