Who you are

You are an experienced Software Engineer with a strong background in building scalable systems and a passion for observability. You have expertise in Python and are familiar with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes. Your experience includes designing telemetry systems that handle large volumes of operational data, ensuring reliability and performance across complex infrastructures.

You understand the importance of monitoring and telemetry in maintaining operational excellence. You have worked with observability tools such as Grafana and Prometheus, enabling teams to visualize and analyze system performance effectively. Your problem-solving skills allow you to diagnose issues quickly and implement solutions that enhance system reliability.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineers and researchers to understand their needs and improve the observability of systems. You are proactive in identifying potential challenges and are committed to building systems that are both efficient and user-friendly. You have a growth mindset and are eager to learn about new technologies and methodologies in the observability space.

Desirable

Experience with high-throughput data pipelines and distributed tracing is a plus. Familiarity with error analytics and alerting systems will help you excel in this role. You are also open to exploring new tools and technologies that can enhance the observability infrastructure at Anthropic.

What you'll do

As a Staff+ Software Engineer on the Observability team, you will design and build scalable telemetry ingest and storage pipelines for metrics, logs, traces, and error data across Anthropic’s multi-cluster infrastructure. You will collaborate with other engineers to ensure that the observability systems you create are robust and can handle the increasing complexity of operational data as the company scales.

You will be responsible for developing high-throughput ingest pipelines that efficiently process large volumes of telemetry data. Your work will involve creating cost-effective storage solutions and unified query layers that allow engineers to access and analyze data seamlessly. You will also contribute to building agentic diagnostic tools that empower engineers to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues swiftly.

Your role will require you to stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in observability, ensuring that Anthropic remains at the forefront of operational excellence. You will participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the overall improvement of the engineering practices within the team.
