Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in hardware product design, with experience in tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing. Your attention to detail and creativity allow you to solve complex design challenges effectively. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with industrial designers and engineering teams to refine product designs. Your knowledge of manufacturing processes enables you to design for assembly and manufacturability, ensuring that products can be produced efficiently and effectively.

You are familiar with designing for high volume manufacturing, particularly with materials such as injection molded plastics, die cast metals, and sheet metal. Your skills in metrology and simple fixture design help you ensure that prototypes meet the necessary specifications. You are also experienced in performing failure analysis to identify potential issues early in the design process, allowing for timely adjustments and improvements.

What you'll do

In this role, you will ideate and develop initial product layouts for the next generation of Mac computers. You will generate concepts, prototype, and test designs to drive down-selection and optimize functionality. Collaborating with external vendors and internal manufacturing teams, you will ensure that designs meet both functional and cosmetic requirements. You will also perform stress, tolerance, and failure analysis throughout the product lifecycle to guarantee quality and reliability.

Your responsibilities will include traveling to assembly sites in Asia to support factory builds and optimize designs for manufacturability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and technology groups, to integrate technology seamlessly into the product. Your role will be crucial in delivering innovative products that enrich customers' lives, and you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the Mac Product Design team.
