Who you are

You have 2+ years of industry or academic experience in image quality assessment, showcasing your strong background in machine learning techniques. Your expertise includes working with Transformers, LLMs, and VLMs, which are crucial for developing state-of-the-art algorithms. You are proficient in Python and familiar with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, allowing you to effectively implement complex models. Your solid foundation in digital signal and image processing equips you to tackle challenges in visual quality enhancement. A Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field further strengthens your qualifications.

You have experience working on AI-based solutions for large-scale, real-world image or video data, demonstrating your ability to handle performance-sensitive applications. Familiarity with human perception models and subjective testing methodologies is a plus, as it helps you understand the nuances of image quality. You have a demonstrated ability to translate research into production-level code and tools, ensuring that your innovations are practical and impactful. Additionally, familiarity with iOS and/or macOS development environments enhances your capability to integrate your work into Apple's ecosystem.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be part of a new team within the Camera and Photos Software group, focusing on rethinking how Apple assesses and scales image quality across features and workflows. You will design and develop ML-based algorithms that evaluate and enhance visual quality, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that Apple’s camera and photo experiences consistently exceed user expectations. Your work will involve innovating at every level of the imaging pipeline, contributing to the high standards of visual quality that Apple is known for.

You will engage in research to explore new methodologies for image quality assessment, both objectively and subjectively. This includes developing metrics and benchmarks that align with Apple's vision for imaging excellence. You will also be responsible for implementing your algorithms in production, ensuring they perform well under real-world conditions. Your role will require you to stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning and image processing, applying this knowledge to enhance Apple's imaging capabilities.
