Block is seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to drive the development of custom silicon for their bitcoin mining products. You'll lead a talented team focused on optimizing power and area efficiency. This role requires expertise in ASIC design and development.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in hardware engineering with a focus on ASIC design — your experience includes leading teams in the development of custom silicon for high-performance applications. You understand the critical metrics that impact mining profitability, such as power efficiency and area efficiency, and have a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions in this space.

You are passionate about the potential of bitcoin and decentralized technologies — you stay informed about industry trends and are eager to contribute to products that promote financial independence. Your leadership style fosters collaboration and innovation, empowering your team to excel in their roles.

You possess excellent problem-solving skills and can navigate complex technical challenges — your analytical mindset allows you to optimize designs for performance and efficiency. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a focus on quality.

You have experience in project management and can effectively communicate with cross-functional teams — your ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders ensures alignment on project goals. You are committed to mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning within your team.

Desirable

Experience with bitcoin mining technologies or related fields is a plus — familiarity with the specific challenges and opportunities in this industry will enhance your contributions to the team. A background in software development or firmware design can also be beneficial, as it allows for a more integrated approach to product development.

What you'll do

As the ASIC Lead at Block, you will oversee the development of custom silicon for our bitcoin mining products — your leadership will be crucial in ensuring that our ASIC designs meet the highest standards of performance and efficiency. You will work closely with the Bitcoin Products team to define product requirements and translate them into actionable engineering tasks.

You will lead a team of engineers in the design, simulation, and testing of ASICs — your hands-on approach will involve guiding the team through the entire development lifecycle, from concept to production. You will establish best practices for ASIC design and ensure that all projects are completed on time and within budget.

Collaboration with software and firmware teams will be essential — you will work together to optimize the integration of hardware and software, ensuring that our mining products deliver exceptional performance. You will also engage with external partners and stakeholders to gather feedback and iterate on designs based on real-world usage.

You will be responsible for setting performance benchmarks and conducting thorough testing to validate ASIC designs — your analytical skills will help identify areas for improvement and drive continuous optimization. You will also stay abreast of industry advancements and incorporate new technologies into our designs as appropriate.

What we offer

At Block, you will be part of a mission-driven company focused on transforming the financial landscape — we offer a collaborative work environment where innovation is encouraged and rewarded. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to impact millions of users worldwide.

We provide competitive compensation packages, including salary and benefits that reflect your skills and experience — our commitment to employee well-being includes comprehensive health coverage and opportunities for professional development. You will also have access to resources that support your growth and career advancement within the company.

Join us in building the future of money — your contributions will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of bitcoin mining products and services. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
