Overview
Block is hiring an Embedded Site Reliability Engineer to develop and maintain software applications for their Bitcoin mining initiatives. You'll work with Embedded Linux and AWS to support cloud-hosted observability platforms. This position requires experience in embedded software development.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in embedded software development, particularly in Linux environments — you've successfully built, tested, and deployed applications on both bare metal and cloud platforms. Your experience with observability tools allows you to maintain well-structured defect documentation and system status reporting effectively.
You are proficient in programming languages such as Python and have hands-on experience with Docker — your skills enable you to implement tests and detection methods for new failure modes in embedded systems. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with ASIC and Electrical Engineering teams to redefine Bitcoin mining.
What you'll do
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a cloud-hosted observability platform for deployed devices — this involves ensuring that the software applications you create support Block's state-of-the-art custom Bitcoin mining chip. You will also conduct in-bound issue triage for bug reports and hardware field failures, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the development and maintenance of embedded software and tooling — your contributions will directly impact the success of Block's Bitcoin Products team. You will implement tests or detection methods for new failure modes, ensuring the reliability and performance of the systems you work on.
What we offer
At Block, you will be part of a mission-driven team that is accelerating the world's transition to an open economy — your work will contribute to innovative products like Bitkey, a self-custody bitcoin wallet. We offer a dynamic work environment where you can grow your skills and make a real impact in the financial technology space.
We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Join us in building the future of money and be part of a team that is dedicated to increasing access and independence for everyone.
