Who you are

You have extensive experience in machine learning engineering, particularly in risk modeling and fraud detection. Your background includes a strong proficiency in Python and SQL, enabling you to build and productionize machine learning models effectively. You understand the complexities of financial systems and have a keen interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

You thrive in collaborative environments, partnering with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, and compliance to develop innovative solutions. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders is a key strength, allowing you to influence decision-making and drive projects forward.

You are comfortable taking ownership of projects and leading technical decision-making within your workstreams. Your experience includes designing end-to-end machine learning systems, from problem definition and modeling to deployment and monitoring. You are proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing best practices in machine learning.

Desirable

Experience with Bitcoin or cryptocurrency products is a plus, as is familiarity with risk management frameworks. You may also have experience in building tooling and processes that enhance the efficiency of machine learning workflows.

What you'll do

In this role, you will serve as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for Bitcoin risk modeling, focusing on detecting and responding to fraudulent activities across Block's platforms. You will lead the development of machine learning models that assess risk and compliance as new Bitcoin products are launched. Your responsibilities will include designing and productionizing ML-driven risk solutions at scale, ensuring they are robust and effective.

You will collaborate closely with product managers to define the requirements for risk models and work with engineering teams to integrate these models into existing systems. Your role will also involve monitoring the performance of deployed models, iterating on them based on feedback and changing conditions in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

You will be expected to influence the overall machine learning strategy at Block, contributing to planning and technical decision-making processes. Your insights will help shape how risk and compliance controls are implemented as the company expands its Bitcoin offerings.
