You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in image processing or media technologies — you've developed scalable systems that handle millions of requests and understand the intricacies of performance optimization. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to build robust APIs that serve high-traffic applications, and you are comfortable working with cloud infrastructure to manage production environments.

You possess a strong understanding of RESTful services and have experience with microservices architecture — you know how to design systems that are both efficient and maintainable. Your background includes working with image and video processing technologies, and you are familiar with the challenges of delivering high-quality media at scale.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working alongside frontend engineers to create seamless user experiences — your communication skills enable you to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively. You are proactive in identifying areas for improvement within existing systems and are always looking for ways to enhance performance and reliability.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Cloudinary, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the core features of our image transformation engine — this includes optimizing existing code and implementing new functionalities that enhance our product offerings. You will work closely with a team of engineers to manage over 300 production cloud servers, ensuring that our systems are reliable and performant under heavy load.

You will participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions, helping to shape the direction of our backend systems — your insights will be invaluable as we continue to scale our platform to meet the demands of our growing user base. You will also collaborate with product managers and designers to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions that drive engagement and satisfaction.
