You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in building and operating scalable systems. Your expertise in Java and cloud technologies like AWS allows you to design robust services that meet high availability and security standards. Your operational mindset ensures that you not only build but also maintain and improve systems in production, focusing on reliability and observability.

You possess a strong understanding of security principles and practices, enabling you to integrate security seamlessly into the development process. Your experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes equips you to manage complex deployments effectively. You are comfortable with REST API design and have a solid grasp of best practices for API security and performance.

You are a proactive communicator, able to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You enjoy mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within your team. You are adaptable and open to feedback, always looking for ways to enhance your skills and contribute to the team's success.

Desirable

Experience with incident response and monitoring tools is a plus, as is familiarity with infrastructure as code practices. Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Python or Go can enhance your contributions to the team. A background in data streaming technologies or distributed systems would be beneficial, given Confluent's focus on real-time data movement.

What you'll do

In this role, you will architect and develop platform services that are critical to Confluent's cloud infrastructure. You will lead the design of scalable services that handle authentication, authorization, and security telemetry. Your focus will be on creating systems that are not only functional but also secure and resilient in production environments. You will collaborate with engineering, security, and compliance teams to ensure that the services you build meet the highest standards of security and reliability.

You will implement comprehensive observability and monitoring solutions, enabling your team to respond quickly to incidents and maintain system health. Your operational design will include automation for incident response, ensuring that the platform remains robust under varying loads. You will also contribute to the development of best practices for software development and operational excellence, sharing your knowledge with the team to foster a culture of learning and growth.
