Who you are

You are a backend engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience who values code simplicity and performance. You’ve shipped software that enhances developer productivity and understand the intricacies of integrating AI into development environments. Your experience includes working with various programming languages, particularly Java and Python, and you have a strong grasp of version control systems like Git. You thrive in collaborative settings and are excited about building tools that empower developers.

You have a keen interest in AI and its applications in developer tools, particularly in optimizing prompts and enhancing user experiences within IDEs. Your background includes working with cloud services, and you are familiar with containerization technologies such as Docker. You are also comfortable with monitoring and observability tools, particularly Datadog, which you use to ensure the reliability and performance of the systems you build.

Desirable

Experience with Elasticsearch is a plus, as it will help you in building efficient search functionalities within the tools you develop. Familiarity with the latest research on LLM prompt optimization and agent tools will set you apart, as you will be expected to prototype and iterate on innovative solutions that enhance the developer experience.

What you'll do

In this role, you will work on prompts, evals, and agent tools for working with code as part of the Datadog MCP server. You will be responsible for the engineering efforts to productionize these systems and integrate them within our customer’s IDEs. Your work will involve conceptualizing and building innovative UIs within the Datadog Cursor and VSCode extension, ensuring they work seamlessly with our groundbreaking AI experiences.

You will prototype solutions and closely iterate with users to understand their needs and refine the tools accordingly. Your role will also involve following the latest research on LLM prompt optimization, agents, and code editing to ensure that the tools you develop are cutting-edge and effective.

Additionally, you will support other Datadog product teams in building and productionizing their developer-focused MCP toolings. For example, you’ll collaborate with the Live Debugger team to create an agentic production debugging experience, delivering on the vision of “one click to reproduce” for production errors. Your contributions will directly impact how developers interact with Datadog’s tools, making them more efficient and effective.
