Overview

Formlabs is hiring an Electrical Engineer to lead the electronics design of 3D printing products. You'll work on full-stack design from concept to mass production, requiring skills in embedded systems and PCB layout. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in electronics design.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a minimum of 2 years of experience designing and debugging electronics — you've worked on projects that required both analog and digital design, and you're comfortable with PCB layout and validation techniques. As an electrical engineering generalist, you thrive in environments where you can bridge the gap between the analog and digital worlds, and you enjoy the challenge of creating elegant solutions to complex problems.

Your hands-on experience with prototyping, validating, debugging, and reworking boards means you understand the intricacies of electronics design — you can take a project from concept to initial prototype and mature it to mass production. You are skilled in making architecture decisions and trade-offs while considering cost, reliability, and flexibility to achieve business goals.

You have a strong foundation in designing for wired and wireless connectivity options such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet — your ability to integrate physical sensors and actuators into your designs sets you apart. Writing basic code to test the functionality of your designs is second nature to you, and you enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative products to life.

Desirable

Experience with 3D printing technology or related fields would be a plus, as would familiarity with industry standards and best practices in electronics design. You are encouraged to share a portfolio that demonstrates your skills and experience, showcasing your ability to tackle real-world engineering challenges.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the electronics design of 3D printing and related products — your responsibilities will include overseeing the entire product life cycle from initial concept through to mass production. You will make critical EE architecture decisions and trade-offs, ensuring that your designs are sound by performing necessary engineering calculations and experiments.

You will design for various connectivity options, integrating both wired and wireless technologies into your projects. Your role will also involve collaborating closely with mechanical engineers and software developers to ensure that all aspects of the product work seamlessly together. You will be responsible for validating and debugging your designs, ensuring that they meet the high standards expected in the industry.

Your contributions will directly impact the success of Formlabs' mission to bring groundbreaking professional 3D printers to the desktop of every designer, engineer, researcher, and artist in the world. You will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects that push the boundaries of technology and design.

What we offer

At Formlabs, we value diversity and are committed to building an inclusive community that will change the face of 3D printing. We offer a collaborative work environment where your ideas and contributions are valued. You will have access to cutting-edge technology and the opportunity to work alongside talented professionals who are passionate about their work.

We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — if you see yourself contributing to our mission, we want to hear from you. Join us in reinventing an industry and making a lasting impact on the world of 3D printing.
