Who you are
You have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience and at least 1 year of experience with software development in programming languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, or JavaScript. You possess a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms, and you have experience with power analysis and operating systems. Your background includes knowledge of embedded software system design and familiarity with Linux Kernel and Android systems. You are an excellent communicator, capable of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Desirable
A Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred. Experience with mobile phone hardware subsystems, including application processors, multimedia, GPU, modem, and Wi-Fi, will set you apart. You have a keen interest in optimizing software for power and performance improvements, which is crucial for this role.
What you'll do
As a Firmware Engineer at Google, you will analyze and optimize the software running across key components of the chipset, including the Central Processing Unit (CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), memory subsystem, and connectivity. Your role will involve debugging and resolving battery drain issues, ensuring that our products meet power goals. You will collaborate closely with Android app teams across Google to help them optimize power consumption and develop tools and tests for validating and monitoring power usage.
