Overview

Google is hiring a Board Design Engineer to work on high-speed board design for server and networking products. You'll utilize your expertise in electrical engineering and EDA tools to develop cutting-edge hardware solutions. This position requires 2 years of relevant experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or have equivalent practical experience, and you bring at least 2 years of experience in high-speed board design, specifically in schematic and layout supervision for server, networking, or high-performance computing products. Your background includes designing with high-speed serial interfaces such as SerDes, PCIe, Ethernet, and DDR, and you have a solid understanding of signal integrity concepts including insertion loss, crosstalk, and impedance matching. You are also experienced in DC-DC power converter design and power integrity concepts, which are crucial for the role. Additionally, you have hands-on experience bringing up SoCs and debugging interactions between hardware, firmware, and software, showcasing your ability to troubleshoot complex systems.

You are proficient with EDA tools like Cadence Concept/Allegro or similar, which allows you to effectively guide PCB layout designers in the placement and routing of critical signals and power planes. Your technical expertise is complemented by your ability to work collaboratively within a team that pushes boundaries, developing custom silicon solutions that power the future of Google's direct-to-consumer products. You are passionate about shaping the next generation of hardware experiences, delivering unparalleled performance, efficiency, and integration.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of high-speed boards that are integral to Google's hardware products. You will work closely with PCB layout designers to ensure the optimal placement and routing of critical signals and power planes, guiding them through the design process. Your responsibilities will include leading the lab bring-up of first-silicon/first-board, where you will debug hardware issues using oscilloscopes, TDRs, and logic analyzers to root-cause failures related to components, assembly, or design issues. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the hardware meets the performance and reliability standards expected by Google's customers.

Your role will involve continuous learning and adaptation as you work on innovative projects that impact millions of users worldwide. You will contribute to the development of hardware solutions that prioritize security, efficiency, and reliability, aligning with Google's mission to shape the future of hyperscale computing. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and share your knowledge, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence within the team.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a dynamic team that values innovation and creativity. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including opportunities for professional development and growth. You will work in a supportive environment that encourages you to push the boundaries of technology and make a meaningful impact on the world. Join us in our mission to develop cutting-edge hardware solutions that enhance the user experience and drive the future of technology.
