Overview

Google is hiring a Technical Program Manager to lead complex energy modeling projects. You'll utilize your expertise in program management and resource planning software like PLEXOS and PROMOD. This role requires 5+ years of experience and offers opportunities to work in dynamic energy markets.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience, along with 5 years of experience in program management. Your background includes 5 years of experience in resource planning, particularly with production cost modeling software applications such as PLEXOS and PROMOD. You are proficient in Python, which you have used to analyze and interpret data related to energy markets and load forecasting.

Your preferred qualifications include a PhD degree in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, or a related discipline. You have experience in electricity markets across multiple regions globally, and you excel at identifying potential risks in resource planning while developing effective mitigation strategies to ensure a reliable and cost-effective energy supply.

You are skilled at coordinating with both energy experts and non-experts, leading projects that require inputs from multiple teams through cross-functional collaboration. You understand that a problem isn’t truly solved until it’s resolved for all stakeholders involved, which aligns with Google's mission to create opportunities for everyone.

What you'll do

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you will lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish, leveraging your technical expertise. You will work closely with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You are equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

Your responsibilities will include contributing to the selection and development of appropriate modeling assumptions used to run medium and long-term production cost models. You will collect, analyze, and interpret data related to energy markets, load forecasting, generation capacity, and transmission constraints to inform energy supply planning decisions. Additionally, you will communicate and present topics to stakeholders, ensuring that all parties are aligned and informed throughout the project lifecycle.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to building products that help create opportunities for everyone. You will have access to a collaborative work environment where your contributions will have a direct impact on shaping energy modeling and resource planning strategies. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds in our teams.
