Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience. With 5 years of experience in systems automation, you have a strong background in systems design and implementation. You are well-versed in technical infrastructure, including deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting, and understand the importance of reliability in technical systems. Your experience includes diagnostics and network diagnostics, which are crucial for this role.

You have spent at least 3 years writing production software in Python or Go, focusing on workflows and process automation. Your background in systems development engineering, system reliability engineering, or advanced systems administration has equipped you with the skills needed to manage services and systems effectively. You are familiar with CI/CD tools and practices, integration tests, source control, and release processes, which are essential for maintaining operational efficiency.

What you'll do

As a Senior Systems Development Engineer at Google, you will manage services and systems at scale, creatively applying your engineering discipline to automate mundane tasks and reduce toil. You will not only write code to fix bugs but also develop tools and solutions that address classes of problems. Your focus on observability will involve instrumenting systems, turning data into actionable knowledge, and ensuring operational efficiency across Google’s systems and services.

You will work closely with customers to define distributed systems requirements and testing procedures, proposing effective solutions to meet their needs. Your role will involve evaluating technical data, developing recommendations for systems and services, and responding to tickets and bugs within team-defined Service Level Objectives (SLOs). You will contribute to the overall improvement of systems and services through bug reports and consultations, ensuring that Google’s infrastructure remains robust and reliable.
