Overview

HubSpot is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to shape the technical future of their Commerce Hub. You'll work on building a robust platform for billing and payments, utilizing skills in Java and AI. This role requires extensive experience in software engineering and architecture.

Job Description

Who you are

You have over 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on building scalable systems that handle complex transactions. Your expertise in Java is complemented by a deep understanding of payment systems and billing processes, allowing you to create reliable and efficient solutions. You thrive in hands-on roles where you can write code and lead architectural discussions, ensuring that the systems you build are both robust and extensible. You have a proven track record of owning large-scale initiatives and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact results. Your ability to define and evolve core domain models means you understand how to make pricing, products, contracts, invoices, and payments behave predictably across various platforms. You are passionate about leveraging AI to enhance commerce experiences and are eager to push the boundaries of what's possible in this space.

Desirable

Experience with AI-driven solutions and a strong grasp of event-driven architectures would be beneficial. Familiarity with CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) systems and a background in financial correctness will set you apart as a candidate. You are also comfortable leading design reviews and mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge to foster a culture of learning and innovation within your team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical roadmap for HubSpot's Commerce Hub. You will build a simple, consistent, and extensible platform that integrates seamlessly with HubSpot’s CRM. Your responsibilities will include defining core domain models and creating frameworks that simplify platform extensions without adding unnecessary complexity. You will lead design reviews, ensuring that the architecture aligns with best practices for extensibility and financial correctness. As a hands-on engineer, you will write code regularly and take prototypes to production at scale, directly impacting the user experience for businesses managing their revenue through HubSpot. You will also own large multi-team initiatives that span across CPQ, Billing, and Payments, collaborating closely with product managers and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.

What we offer

HubSpot offers a flexible remote work environment, allowing you to balance your professional and personal life effectively. You will be part of a dynamic team that values innovation and collaboration, with opportunities for professional growth and development. The company is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, encouraging you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. You will have access to resources and support to help you succeed in your role and make a meaningful impact on the future of commerce at HubSpot.
