Overview
Instacart is hiring a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead complex machine learning and computer vision engineering programs. You'll work with AI-powered checkout experiences and data pipelines. This position requires experience in managing technical programs in the AI domain.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in technical program management, particularly in machine learning and computer vision — you've successfully led complex engineering programs that involve high-quality data pipelines and robust model training. Your experience includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful AI solutions that enhance user experiences.
You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders — you thrive in environments where you can bridge the gap between engineering and product teams. Your ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a keen eye for detail sets you apart.
You are familiar with the grocery or retail industry, understanding the unique challenges and opportunities it presents — your insights into customer needs and market trends help guide your program management strategies. You are passionate about leveraging technology to improve everyday experiences for consumers.
Desirable
Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools — you are comfortable using tools like Jira or Asana to track progress and manage workflows. Familiarity with AI technologies and their applications in retail is a plus, as is any experience working with hardware integrations in a retail environment.
What you'll do
As a Senior Technical Program Manager at Instacart, you will lead the Caper team in developing AI-powered checkout experiences — your role involves overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of machine learning and computer vision projects that enhance the shopping experience. You will coordinate with engineering teams to ensure that data pipelines are efficient and that models are trained effectively.
You will be responsible for defining project scopes, timelines, and deliverables — your ability to manage stakeholder expectations and communicate progress will be crucial. You will also facilitate regular meetings to ensure alignment across teams and address any challenges that arise during the project lifecycle.
Your role will require you to analyze project performance and implement improvements — you will leverage data to make informed decisions and optimize processes. You will also mentor junior team members, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and growth.
What we offer
Instacart provides a flexible work environment, allowing you to choose where you do your best work — whether from home, an office, or a coffee shop. We believe in building a community through regular in-person events and team-building activities. Our compensation package is competitive, with salaries ranging from $178,000 to $226,000 depending on your location and experience.
You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that is transforming the grocery industry — your contributions will directly impact millions of customers and help shape the future of retail. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
